I quit! and a visit to Buffalo

life changes and decision making

So I quit my job.  There is a long list why but basically it wasn’t going to work anymore with the direction of my life.  The great part is that someone really wanted me and was willing to give me 2 weeks off.

My Mom and wedding planner filled my time with cake tasting, dinner tasting and decorations.  I had a great week!  First stop was the important tasting at the Statler for the dinner.  Everything was great and I think we will end up with a Chicken, Beef and vegetarian option.  I am a little concerned that we only have a salad course and main course- is that enough?  There is an option to add a soup but what happened to the traditional 5 course dinners I remember as a kid?  I want the intermezzo!  I am adding a dessert table too because I am definitely not a cake person- sugar instead please.

Are you doing a dessert table?  This could expand to include a number of DIY things like cake stands from plates and candlestick holders ( my wedding planner is helping me here ).

Cake Tasting!  I dont love cake.  I especially dont love pound cake.  I choose pumpernick and pastry for my cake because they are one of the few places that uses real ingredients these days.  The cake was good and their decorator was hilarious.  For the area, I think they are really affordable too and dont require you to book far out in advance.  Not as posh as a few other places in buffalo but just good cake.  I learned a lot there as well, I had no idea that certain fillings were better than others for the cake structure.  Fruit fillings slip which buttercream sets a solid foundation.  And now you know.

Linens- didn’t expect this one to be so pricey.  I was shocked that the statler didn’t have linens to the floor for all of their tables.  Looking at linens at the wedding agent I was shocked at how much they were.  Of course I also want chargers… another fee.  I thought the venue would have all of this to rent at an option.  Anyways, it will look wonderful and I have my fiance’s buy in which helps a lot.

Lastly I did a bunch of great discount shopping at goodwill and salvo.  I am collecting my own vases and dishes for the reception instead of renting them.  This way we can give them out as presents for years to come or sell them on ebay.  My Mom, wedding planner and myself are all scavenging the discount stores and I hope it gives a really unique look to the entire event.  Anyone have other ideas?

Are you getting overwhelmed yet?  I certainly am.  Everything is so expensive and everyone wants everything yesterday.  This is a full time job, like a new job you have no idea what your missing until its too late.  yuck!  Good luck to you and me in this crazyness.
