Finally the Year of our Wedding!

When Andrew and I were engaged in 2011, I thought 2013 would never come! But here we are, finally in the year we are to be married, with less than five months to go! Reality is kicking in and for the first time, I actually feel like a bride.
I work in the hospitality industry, so I talk to brides, read wedding literature, promote in special bridal sections of newspapers, scope out vendors and competition; all for business. Lucky for me, this is a slow season for hoteliers and on top of that our hotel is awaiting a complete renovation geared for later this month. As a sales person, this limbo is my nightmare. However, as a bride, I am in heaven. Unfortunately due to waiting on renovations, we were unable to participate in the Bridal shows this winter in Buffalo (which would have been amazing for both my job and our wedding) but it is giving me more time to focus on our wedding and finally dive in to checklists and vendors.
I do need to throw in a plug for my hotel; The Lord Amherst is going to be renovating shortly. For any future brides who need to house their families coming in from out of town… this is going to be a great option for you! It is located directly off of exit 7A of the 290, and is in a quaint part of Williamsville. Being off of the 290, it is literally minutes to anywhere in Buffalo. That being said, it is being redone to be an upscale boutique hotel. (I have seen what they are doing to the model rooms… and let me tell you, it is going to be gorgeous!!!)
I don’t know how many of you are subscribed to theknot.com, but it has proven to be a lifesaver for me. Now that I am in bridal mode for real- I have been downloading all of their checklists – breaks it down monthly for you. They even have guest list spreadsheets and tons of links for vendors, sites, whatever you need. This has proven to be helpful since I am living in Buffalo and planning a wedding in Rochester.
Another plug; the lovely florist across the street from my hotel – Atrium Floral and Gift. If my wedding was in Buffalo, or I had a reliable refrigerated van to bring everything to Rochester, I would have gone with them hands down. They supply our hotel with floral arrangements weekly, and I have seen their other work. Absolutely stunning. Plus their prices are pretty competitive.
Those are my next steps… Guest list, Floral and Cake. Anyone have tips on how to proceed without my head spinning? Also, I am having a conundrum. We are pretty classic, so we were going to just do a classic cake. But we also sort of like the idea of cupcakes, and someone today told me how she had a cupcake tower at her wedding and how it was a huge hit! Another point I didn’t think of is how many different flavors you can chose at that point. Any opinions on that matter??
I am attending a Bridal show in Rochester on the 13th, so hopefully we will get a ton of great ideas there. I will let you know how it goes!
