Grandeur on a Budget

Dear Jen:
My wedding won’t be royal by any stretch of the imagination. How do I make it memorable on a budget?

Dear Amanda,
There are so many ways to have the wedding you want without going into serious debt. First, examine your priorities to figure out what truly matters. Is it the people who’ll make the party? If so, invite the world, but compromise in other ways – reduce the 4-course dinner to 2, buy the $400 gown instead of the $4,000 frock, make your own centerpieces. Is it the music, food, or venue that’s critical? Then pare down your guest list—then serve the surf ‘n turf and good wine.
As you make each decision, you will inevitably get caught up in the I-can’t-settle-for-less wedding frenzy — so always go back to your priority list when making choices. That 7-tier wedding cake may not look as appetizing when you realize it means cutting 10 people off the guest list.
