Honeymoon Plans
I’ll begin this post by saying that I am still in the same place with the Statler. I’m thinking, looking, and keeping my options open. Having said that, I am still interested in hearing from anyone that is going through a similar problem.
Anyways, Dan and I have made some progress in the last few weeks – we’ve booked our honeymoon! This was a huge relief, particularly because we are going where we really wanted to go and we saved more than $3,000!
Weeks and weeks passed and Dan spent countless hours perusing TripAdvisor for the perfect honeymoon destination. Before going to see our travel agent, we had an idea where we wanted to stay: the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso in the Mayan Riviera. We also knew our budget - $7,000 for 8 nights from December 26th to January 3rd. We were told that we would have to pay more because Christmastime travel is very expensive. Because I am a teacher and do not want to miss several days of school, we really had no other option. So, we just prepared ourselves for the worst.
We were very disappointed, however, when our travel agent looked at us and said, “$8,600.00!” Dejected and feeling sorry for ourselves, we accepted the fact that we would have to go somewhere else.
Suddently, an idea popped into my head. “What about Thanksgiving,” I asked. After some number crunching, she looked at us and informed us we would be saving lots of money. We planned on staying in a room with an ocean view, meaning the water was visible somewhere from our patio.
A little hesitant, our agent told us they were running a special on garden view rooms. We weren’t interested, until…the best news of all came. She told us that we were guaranteed an upgrade to an oceanfront room! This meant that we would be able to see the ocean anywhere from our room. Without hesitation, we booked. The room is more than we expected, while the price is much less.
We are happy that one more thing is in place. Hopefully, this flu-scare gets under control so that we aren’t stuck in another sticky situation. Keep your fingers crossed that the Statler stays open for everyone who is planning events there… I know we are not alone!

RE: Statler
It's really nice to see that others are sticking with it. After seeing a couple great places, we have decided to stick with it. I'm feeling more confident as well. Thanks for the thoughts :-)
Statler
We also have our wedding book at the Statler in the Terrace Room for September. While the stories concerned me at first, we firmly believe in Park Lane. I know they will (and have) made every effort to ensure that they can provide for those of us who have contracts with them. Bankruptcy is a good thing believe it or not. Just remember everything happens for a reason! If things take a turn for the worst, I'm sure that Park Lane will do whatever they can to fix it.
