It's been 7 years since Tara and I met at SUNY Geneseo during the spring semester of 2003. Our eyes locked from across the room at a friend's party and the rest is history. After our lives settled down a bit and our careers took shape, it was finally time to propose. The winter months were taking their toll on Tara. I decided on a Niagara Falls, Ontario getaway. For those that may dismiss this as just another Falls proposal, please read on.Months had passed since our last vacation and we were 19 the last time either one of us had been to Canada. A wintery Niagara-on-the Lake had been on our "to-do" list ever since we started dating and I chose February 6th based purely on timing. We are both 26 years old and after dating for nearly seven years, I just couldn’t wait any longer! The date 2-6 seemed perfect. When Tara asked, I would brush off that Saturday as "just a spa day" and that we would "figure it out when we got there." That wasn't completely the truth. I had already been north of the border two weeks prior to set everything up. While Tara was enjoying her spa treatments, I went into action. I was reunited with the concierge to confirm reservations. I called our friends that were part of the surprise later that evening, and most importantly, I decided that our suite was going to be the location. I retrieved a set of portable speakers, a bottle of champagne, and the lighted ring box from my various hiding spots. Dinner that evening at the Terrapin Restaurant was great. At that point, I couldn’t leave anything else up to chance, so I decided to fake a stomach-ache to get Tara back up to the room."The Spin Move"After dinner we unlock the door and Tara cuts me in line for the bathroom - right on cue! I turn off all the lights and open both curtains to reveal one of the best views of the Falls I have ever seen. I played "January Rain" (Tara’s favorite song from the movie 'Serendipity') on my iPod speakers and slide the ring box from the window sill. I lose myself in the view. I'm just a motionless silhouette in front of a giant glowing waterfall. Tara came up behind me and with one careful motion, I spin 180 degrees, drop to a knee, take her hand, and open the ring box. "Taralyn Marie Bouquin … I have loved you since the day we first met… will you marry me?" With tears in her eyes she screamed yes and we danced for a short while, drank champagne, and then celebrated with close friends at the R5 Lounge in the Fallsview Casino. It was a great night! My sister uploaded a video of me telling the story to our parents the next day:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SL0aLw4ofbchttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUUhNu9a8Qc
