Ryan and I met in college and had been dating for almost 5 years. He knew how ready I was to get engaged but never wanted to talk about it so I had no idea where he stood. I had told him a few years before that when he proposed, water and lights needed to be included in somehow. I am very particular about things! This past August, we went down to the D.C/Baltimore area to visit some of my friends. Our first night there we stayed overnight in Alexandria, VA just the two of us. We spent the day visiting the sites in Washington, which is my favorite city. When we checked into the hotel, we were upgraded to a better room. (Ryan had all of this set up before hand with the concierge but I had no idea). At night he took me to dinner, where they put us at the best table and served us champagne, claiming because we came from that particular hotel. Obviously, I realized after that this was just another thing Ryan had set up. We had a wonderful dinner at a little Italian restaurant then walked down to the Potomac River, where you could see the lights of D.C. in the background. We went onto a pier where he began to speak of why he loved me and then proposed. I was crying immediately and realized how perfect it was that he was able to include everything that I wanted into it. I realized after that it wasn't the water or the lights that made it special though, it was what he said and the time that he put into making this perfect. We went back to our hotel where roses, strawberries, and champagne was waiting. I've been waiting forever to get engaged and plan a wedding because I thought of how much fun it would be. Now I realize it is because I'm planning the day where I get to start the rest of my life with the perfect man for me.The picture attached was taken right after we got engaged in Alexandria.
